From La Spezia to Melzo the first ever italian train using the rail “fast corridor” opportunities
Friday June 26th the first ever train using the rail “fast corridor” opportunities, resulting from the new regulations adopted by the Italian Custom Agency (Agenzia delle Dogane – Direzione Centrale Tecnologie per l’Innovazione) departed from the port of La Spezia, bound for Rail Hub Milano (RHM), the Contship multi modal platform in Melzo (Milan).
Custom fast corridors enable the transfer from the port of entry to an inland point of containers with simplified processes, adapting Italian import procedures to the latest international standards resulting in adding value to an already strong supply chain element that the Contship System has long since provided to the market. In effect, another string is added to the bow.
Using digital technology, train services are constantly monitored in real time, not only enhancing security in the supply chain, but also track and trace of the train, ultimately leading to substantial improvements in the reliability and integrity of the selected routing.
Following April 23rd event, which marked a new phase in RHM development, the activation of rail fast corridors represents another step forward, which has been strongly sustained by Contship Italia Group and became a reality thanks to the simplification and innovation of customs procedures, operated with determination by the national Custom Agency; an effort coherent with other European projects, such as WiderMOS, financed by the TEN-T MOS program and coordinated by La Spezia Port Authority, with the participation of the Custom Agency and Rail Hub Milano.
Sebastiano Grasso enthuses: “This is another important achievement for our Melzo facility ensuring a safe, secure and simplified process in the Milan transportation corridor , effectively powering 55 per cent of Italian GDP. Being “super-sized” RHM is well positioned to render best in class overall service responding to the different needs of all customers, existing and new. Consumers and manufacturers alike can continue to depend on the Contship System for their supply chain needs, a further reason to Change Your Point of View ! We do believe in such type of logistic development since when, our founder Angelo Ravano, launched in 1969 the company concept: We Bring the Ship to Your Factory!”.
