On Thursday January 29th 2014 La Spezia Container Terminal (LSCT) welcomed the maiden call of the m/v Xin Los Angeles, a 336.7 metres long ULCC deployed by China Shipping Container Lines Co. Ltd on the AMX1 string, linking the Far East to the Mediterranean.
Completed in 2006, with her 9,580 TEUs in nominal capacity the m/v Xin Los Angeles was at the time the largest container ship to have ever sailed the oceans, built with an innovative hull design meant to reduce water resistance to a minimum, a standard for modern-day shipbuilding.
Berthed upon arrival in La Spezia, the m/v Xin Los Angeles was operated along LSCT’s Fornelli East berth, with gangs completing a total of 1,993 container moves and 46 hatch cover moves. As per tradition, the customized crest was presented to Captain Oleg Kalashnikov by LSCT planning coordinator Alessandro Pellegri, celebrating the ship’s maiden call. She is expected to call in La Spezia again on April 12th, a time when the AMX1 will have been fully integrated within the newly deployed O3 service network.
