Delegazione Hanjin Italy visita LSCT

On Wednesday February 11th 2015, La Spezia Container Terminal (LSCT) welcomed a visit of a Hanjin Italy delegation, headed by Mr. Seung-Min Park who was recently appointed as Managing Director, accompanied by Mr. Andrea Dellacasa (Head of Operations).

Hanjin, present in La Spezia since many years, today calls at LSCT through two of its Asia Mediterranean network services (the CKYHE service Pacific-Med Pendulum PM1 and the China Med Network Service CMN through a slot charter agreement within the O3 Asia-Med service), as well as with its  India – Mediterranean – USA service (IMU).

Michele Giromini (LSCT Managing Director), Roberto Scotto (Customer Service Director) and Raffaello Cioni (Commercial Service Unit Director) conveyed how LSCT is committed to continuously improve its role as the main Tyrrhenian sea  gateway, with direct and seamless connectivity to the main North Italian and South European markets.

By visiting the terminal, the visitors were provided with the chance to witness first-hand how LSCT manages successfully all operational aspects involved in the business and the progress on the investment plans to continue increasing the capacity to facilitate operating ULCCs, in the range of 10.000-14.000-16.000 TEUs, the latter now deployed on the Asia-Mediterranean Trade. Clearly we are Ready for the Future, Today.”

“LSCT….” – commented Michele Giromini – “… not only container terminal, but is a logistic platform fully integrated in the La Spezia Port System, which in turn, through a co-operation amongst private and public stakeholders, provides a positive contribution to the overall efficient supply-chain of our valued customers.  On the maritime side, notwithstanding the fact that LSCT is today the only terminal in the region able to berth simultaneously two ULCCs up to 16.000 TEUs,  LSCT is proceeding further with the enhancement of its berth capability as upheld by the arrival from China of two new 23 row cranes and the completion of the revamping program over two cranes to match the 20 rows across standard. In light of these developments, starting from the second half of 2015, along the Fornelli East berth we will be able to operate ships in excess of 16.000 TEUs and on Fornelli West will accommodate 14.000 TEUs ships. Ready for the Future, Today”.

“We now have over 37% of the total throughput being handled via rail…” – added Roberto Scotto – “…with more than 160 weekly trains, linking La Spezia to both key Italian and foreign markets, the latter served via the daily multi departures for Contship Italia Group’s Rail Hub, located in Melzo, Milan. New rail connections are about to be implemented, which are set to enhance our intermodal connectivity, increasing the frequency of connections to and from the Emilia - Romagna area”.
